[01.2] THE MESSAGE
<publication>
"The Medium is the Message" is the opening chapter of Marshall McLuhan's Understanding Media. He argues that the properties of a medium shape audiences independently of content. I made a short publication visualizing just that. Not illustrating the argument, but placing a reader inside it.
The publication is built from noise: rough pixelation, ASCII fields, system interruptions, fragmented type, text that becomes illegible as density increases. The content remains McLuhan's own words. The medium overwhelms them anyway. By the end the noise clears, the "message" becomes legible, and the page says: NOW YOU CAN BREATHE. The point was to make the reader feel the argument before they could read it. The medium shapes the experience whether we're paying attention or not.
